Top 10 uses for Hydrogen Peroxide

The all purpose peroxide
Remember as a kid when you got scraped and brused and how your mom or dad got the bottle of peroxide out and poured some on the open wound? This may sound crazy, but I liked seeing it foam up. Anybody else do that? Well guess what, there was more to what was in that brown bottle than I ever dreamed of, and here they are.
1. Produce - Remove the waxy film, chemicals and bacteria off fruit and veggies using a peroxide solution. Water alone will not do the trick. Fill a large bowl with cold water and add 1/4 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak the fruit and veggies for about 1 minute, then rinse with running water. According to scientific research, this process kills E. coli and bacteria effectively.
2.Blisters - Use peroxide to keep foot blisters from becoming infected. Fill a large bowl with room temperature water and add 2 cups of peroxide. Soak feet for about 30 minutes before bedtime. During this will not only kill germs and bacteria, but also regulate the oxygen supply to the damaged or injured skin. In essence this will speed healing due to quick cell renewal.
3.Stain removal - To remove hard stains like blood from clothing, mix equal parts of water and peroxide. Pour directly on the stain. Let it stay on the affected area for about 30 minutes. Unlike bleach, which eventually can turn white clothing gray, peroxide breaks down the protein in blood through oxidation. This results in no damage of darkening of the clothing.
4.Teeth brightener - peroxide will remove stains between the teeth which is caused by coffee, cola, fruit juices and teas. To clear this up, pour 3% peroxide into a shallow bowl and dip regular dental floss in it. Floss as usual. If you need to spit while flossing, please do, to avoid swallowing. When finished, rinse with water and spit out.
5. Natural nails - For the perfect french manicure, remove the yellow tinge on your nails left behind from the red nail polish. All you need to do is put just enough peroxide in a bowl to cover the nail tips when submerged.Use a q-tip to wipe under the nail tips that has been dipped in peroxide. Oxidation occurs bringing the nails back to their natural color.
6. Save Plants - Root rot in house plants can lead to their demise. if you notice yellowing if leaves, then root rot may be the cause. What you have to do is fill a spray bottle with 1 cup of water and 1 ounce of peroxide. Water plant as usual with solution. Afterwards store any remaining water-peroxide mix out of the sun because peroxide will breakdown in sunlight.
7. Contact lenses - Remove all germs on contact lens with peroxide. The daily cleaning solutions used only remove deposits, but it dosen't kill germs. Soak lens in peroxide for about 1 hour. Then you must rinse with a neutralizing solution before wearing again. This only needs to be done if your contacts are dropped on the floor or other ssurface that might harbor germs. Needlessto say this is not a routine procedure.
8.Remove Tanning streaks - Remove the colored splotch on your leg or anke by taking a cotton swab and applying a small amount ot peroxide to the area. Leave on for a minute and wipe area with a warm damp washcloth. The natural bleach of the peroxide will lighten excess pigment and therefore evening out the complexion.
9.Cutting board bacteria - Did you know that cutting boards can contain about 200% more fecal bacteria than your toilet seat? Disgusting, isn't it? In order for this not to happen, keep it clean by soaking a paper towel or damp cloth in peroxide. Next,j ust wipe the wood or plastic board. Again the oxidizing agents kills salmonella and other organisms which can make you sick.
10.Skunk Odor - If your pooch gets sprayed while chasing a skunk and you used the last tomato juice making yourself a bloody mary last night, then grab the hydrogen peroxide. Next get a large plastic container and fill it with 1 gallon of water. Add 1 quart of peroxide, 2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap, and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Use rubber gloves and apply to your pets fur with a wash cloth. DO NOT get into your animals eyes. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off with water. All skunk odor will be gone. Carefully throw away any solution remaining.
Note: All hydrogen peroxide referred to in this Hub for use is 3%, when not stated and avoid getting peroxide directly on skin.

Please understand that the dogs in this story are not my dogs and the owner of the dogs takes good care of the dogs and these were isolated and unusual occurrences so don't flood my comment box and email... - Make Your Own and Save - Toothpaste and Mouthwash
Most people have never thought to make their own toothpaste and mouthwash. Making your own toothpaste and mouthwash can save you money though. And I think better for you. Actually, you don't even really need...

You can use it to track a blood trail that has gone dry.
Peroxide is an awesome "invention".
good suggestions! I never thought about the produce one... I'll have to try it. And yes, I did like watching it foam up on my cuts!!!
Thanks for the read.
Thanks laringo - I use it a lot at home but never thought to use it for veggies - I use potassium permanganate. It's really great for getting rid of musty smells as well!
I just purchased a bottle over the weekend. Didn't think of using on the cutting board which I am picky about, thanks for the good tips!
Good idea about the veggies. I use it for mouthwash.
Lady your hub is great. I certainly appreciate this one
I had no idea that there was fecal matter on my cutting board. I suppose it makes sense though. All the food particles decomposing. I will definately soak the whole thing in peroxide. Thank you for the great hub.
It is truly a wonderful product, but doesn't last really long...and is good also for toenail fungus...I actually use pure peroxide... Nice hub sweetie...Thanks...G-Ma "\:o) hugs & Peace
Very informative. I did not know you can use Hydrogen Peroxide to save plants. This sure helps someone like me who doesn't have green thumbs. Thanks!
Great Hub laringo. I use a peroxide rinse all the time. To keep from gagging, I cut it with a little bit of mouthwash. I works much better that way!
Laringo, thanks for a great hub! Amazing how many uses this off-the-shelf product has. Some I knew, but some I didn't.
Had to laugh that G-ma Johnson uses it for toe fungus instead of the drug that manufacturer hawked on TV "forever" last year. The one where the side effects were far worse than the fungus itself. Bet they don't want us to know there's an inexpensive and "natural" alternative to their high-dollar product that "might" cause diarrhea, stomach cramps "or in some cases, death". Always loved that part of the commercial! Lemme see...do I want to get rid of the toe fungus that *won't* kill me or take a drug that *could*? Hmmm..... ;}
Wow, that cutting board fact is super disgusting. Kind of makes me want to buy a new one every month. BUT WAIT, now I know to use peroxide...thanks!
Great tip on saving plants...I'm going to give it a try. Peroxide has so many uses and it's so cheap to buy, Wow!
WOW - and I thought my parents used the stuff simply because we were poor! According to your hub, they knew what they were doing - - - and I'm still alive!
Great information - thanks for sharing.
I know only one way to use Hydrogen Peroxide. thanks for 10 great use.
It is a wonderful liquid. When I moved to the hills and couldn't use clorox, because it kills the digestive bacteria in the septic system-- peroxide became a good friend.
How'd I neglect to read this fab hub. good one laringo my pretty. I like to kill nasty stuff on my toenails with it too. great stuff it kills fungus ohter places as well, but reaally is good for the toes
Maybe we can spary some on Pest and Toad to kill their nasty odours?
Great ideas, I'll use a few of these. Hope I do NOT get to try out the deskunker :)
lauringo - believe it or not i ran into a site (as one wanders into sites without really knowing how or why you got there) that suggested the health benefits of drinking food grade peroxide.it was some kind of cure all. ugh.
Very good tips here! Thanks.
I drink a lot of coffee, tea, occasional red wine and occasional cigar ... noticed my teeth getting very stained no matter what I did. Peroxide took care of it. Great hub!
I lovvveee hydrogen peroxide! i use it for everything!
Lots of info I didn't know about peroxide. I'll try these!! I did not know about the produce rinse!!
I also just discovered how useful it is and I now soak my toothbrush in peroxide.
It is great for flushing maggots out of infected wounds on sheep too! But you probably knew that already. Thanks. Great hub.
Wow, plenty of tips. Thanks.
Wonderful info - again! I'm going to run and do my cutting right now.
thanks for share
Good information. I appreciate it.
I found a new use for peroxide this week. I wrote a hub about it called "Peroxide Could Save Your Dog's Life". It was recommended by a vet to induce vomiting on a dog who had ingested rat poison. I watched it work just this week.
There is a link to your hub on mine as well, Laringo...Thanks! Peroxide really is an inexpensive 'wonder' product!
that is a very cool hub. My mom uses peroxide as a mouthwash? I have heard it is good but haven't given it a try myself.
Wonderful hub. Thanks for the great tips!
Wow!! I'm going to start keeping peroxide on hand by the case!! A miracle liquid. I remember in high school spraying it on my arms and legs as we'd soak up the sun at Myrtle Beach.LOL!! But your tips are much more practical. The teeth whitening with peroxide works quite well in fact. Thank you!!
Yes this one was worth reviving-- (I even forgot I commented 6 months ago), it was worth re-reading. I think my houseplants could use a little boost, and I forgot about that use.
This hub is very informative about the uses of hydrogen peroxide, I really don't think people really know just how great this product really is.
I am new and want to know,is the regular 3% H2O2 safe or do I have to purchase H2O2 for internal use?
I could only find 10% Peroxyde, can I use it as recommended instead of 3&peroxyde? Would I need to dilute it? Thanks
Wow. I hadn't heard of this.
Great tips thanks, just off to treat my cutting boards!
Good tips here. Thanks for the well written hub. A safe multipurpose product it is.

We clean our kitchen scrubber and toothbrushes with it. It was also recommended in something I read about a temporary fix for a toothache by gargling with diluted peroxide.
Great hub!
